Tammy Hall

I have been an artist as far back as I can remember, drawing on the walls and sculpting with clay dug up in the backyard before I entered school.

I am a self-taught artist and had never heard of driftwood sculpture until moving to the peninsula in 2004. There again I am still learning this medium. I use the pieces as I find them without cutting or carving to make them fit. Then assemble them like a large 3D jigsaw puzzle.

I let the wood dictate what to make, I will start with a piece that suggests a distinguishing feature and look for accompanying pieces to finish.

Sometimes I am surprised by the outcome and feel as though I am being led instead of directing it. I have had to learn to let go, a very difficult task for me, but the more I let go the more fun I have, lesson learned.
